Travels in South Africa
1982 Family Reunion and Kruger National Park
Flightssee Zaire
Arrival I had not seen my Family, all together since 1968 when they emigrated to South Africa, so it was somewhat of a treat for us all to be together especially as we would all be together for my Parents Wedding Anniversary.
Kruger After a few days looking around Jo’burg having visited the Gold Mine, the 3 brothers left for a few days in the Kruger. Rick, who knew the Kruger well, as he knew some of the Rangers, had booked us into the northern most camp at Punda Maria for 2 nights before moving South to Shingwedzi and the final night at Letaba before leaving the Kruger via the Phalobora gate to return to Jo’burg. The whole experience was out of this world seeing the animals in their natural surroundings. On one occasion we sat on the Bridge over the Limpopo and watched the animals come and go as they gained confidence that they were safe to do so. This experience had made me appreciate the beauty of the game reserves and in the years to come visit as regularly as I could.
Sight seeing Whilst most of this holiday was spent close to home I did get to see places around Jo’burg. Rick took me to Soweto and the Roodeport Dam whilst my parents took me to the Gold mine and the Sunday Mine dances.
